Age-Specific Pet Care

Pets require different levels and types of care as they grow and mature. If your little guy or gal needs immediate medical attention or it is time for a routine checkup, then call us to schedule an appointment.

Puppy and Kitten Care

At a young age, puppies and kittens are more vulnerable to illnesses and parasites. If you’ve recently adopted a pet, make sure to bring your pet in promptly so we can do a complete physical examination. We will screen your new pet's overall health and make sure they don’t have any diseases that can threaten their health or yours.

At an early age, puppies and kittens need a variety of vaccinations, including, but not necessarily limited to:

Puppies

  • Canine distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Canine Influenza
  • Hepatitis
  • Rabies
  • Parainfluenza
  • Bordatella
  • Leptospirosis
  • Lyme disease

Kittens

  • Feline Panleukopenia
  • Feline Rhinotracheitis
  • Feline Calicivirus
  • Feline Leukemia Virus
  • Rabies
  • Feline Chlamydia

The veterinarians at Liberty Falls Veterinary Clinic will recommend the appropriate vaccines for your puppy or kitten, so call at (301) 762-2070 to schedule an initial consultation.

Adult Pet Care

As animals get older, they should have at least one physical exam a year in order to prevent and detect any potential medical problems before they become more serious. Diet and nutrition are also crucial to maintaining your pet’s health at this stage, and feeding your dog or cat the right type of food helps promote a long and healthy life.

Senior Pet Care

As pets age, it is critically important that you keep up with their medical care to ensure they stay healthy and happy into their later years.  Older pets are more likely to develop certain diseases and conditions, including diabetes, kidney or heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.

The American Animal Health Association recommends healthy pets aged 7 and older visit their veterinarians every six months for a complete physical screening with lab testing. This screening should include:

  • Physical exam
  • Intestinal parasite test
  • Overall wellness recommendation
  • Vaccinations (where necessary)
  • Blood work
  • Senior eye exam
  • Orthopedic evaluation
